Accreditation
Georgia State is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, specialist and doctoral degrees. SACSCOC accreditation allows Georgia State to maintain eligibility for state and federal funds, including student financial aid through the U.S. Department of Education. Accreditation is important for the acceptance and transfer of college credits, and receipt of a degree from an accredited undergraduate institution is a standard prerequisite for admission to most graduate programs. View our full accreditation statement.
The Importance of Regional Accreditation
Regional accreditation is the most widely recognized type of accreditation and brings an accepted level of prestige to graduates. This type of accreditation is connected to federal financial aid, transferability of credits, and the perception of graduates and their future employment.
There are six regional accrediting agencies for higher education institutions in the U.S. These agencies oversee institutions within their particular assigned collection of states. Accreditation is voluntary and ensures a college, university or degree program meets a universal standard for quality. This gives an institution and its graduates credibility with other institutions and employers.
