Individuals with a passion for fitness and wellness who want to expand their knowledge of the field will find a wealth of opportunities available through Georgia State Online.
The kinesiology and health pathway (with three different concentrations) and the health and physical education pathway empower students with the foundational knowledge they need for successful careers in the fitness and wellness industries.
Students in all four pathways will earn an associate’s degree that will either provide them with the necessary prerequisite courses for related bachelor’s degrees or prepare them for immediate career opportunities upon completion of the associate’s degree.
- Kinesiology and Health – Personal Training Pathway, A.S.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for personal trainers is projected to grow by 19 percent through 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. Students who want to enter this booming industry can choose the kinesiology and health pathway’s personal trainer concentration and become certified by the American Council on Exercise in addition to earning their associate’s degree.
Students in the personal trainer concentration will be prepared to launch their careers upon finishing the program and can either establish their own personal training clientele or start a job at a gym, wellness center, physical therapy facility or recreation center, to name just a few options.
- Kinesiology and Health - Health Coach, A.S.
Health coaches work one-on-one with clients to build healthier habits and achieve balanced nutrition, giving individuals who enter this profession a real opportunity to make a real difference for those who want to transform their lives. And according to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, health coaching has emerged as a $7 billion dollar industry as more individuals have adopted a holistic approach to health and wellness. Health coaches can operate their own practices as they build a client base or they can work in fitness centers, healthcare facilities and a number of other settings.
Like the personal trainer concentration, students who pursue the kinesiology and health pathway’s health coach concentration will be equipped to enter their chosen profession once they have finished their associate’s degree. Students in the health coach concentration will also earn American Council on Exercise health coach certification.
- Kinesiology and Health - Exercise Science Pathway, A.S.
The kinesiology and health pathway’s exercise science concentration is tailored for those students who want to earn an associate’s degree and transition into Georgia State’s bachelor’s degree program in exercise science.
A bachelor’s degree in exercise science can expand students' career opportunities to include jobs in wellness centers and strength and conditioning centers, and roles as physical or occupational therapy technicians. Earning a bachelor’s degree will also qualify students for graduate programs in related fields.
- Education — Health and Physical Education Pathway, A.S.
Those who want to channel their love for wellness into empowering the next generation will find their fit as physical education teachers. Physical education teachers have the opportunity to impact countless lives by helping students establish healthy habits and balanced lifestyles from a young age.
Georgia State Online’s health and physical education pathway prepares future teachers with the foundational education courses they’ll need to complete their teaching degrees. The program is designed for students who plan to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program, and while most of the courses included in this pathway are available online, some on-campus courses may be required.
