As more and more employers look to graduates from online programs, Georgia State Online is well-positioned for success with several master’s degree programs ranked among the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
“Over the last couple of years, everybody was online, whether you wanted to be or not," Jill Chapman, senior performance consultant at Insperity, a human resources firm, told the publication in a recent article. "I think it doesn’t matter as much to the future employer about whether it was in person or online, I think it matters what you were studying and it matters whether or not your degree comes from a school that was accredited.”
That last point is increasingly important as employers are looking for accredited programs as a “signal of trust” when evaluating the quality of a candidate’s online degree. Additionally, recent surveys indicate many employers tend to favor candidates who have online degrees from traditional universities and non-profit institutions rather than for-profit online programs.
One reason online graduates are considered to be valuable in today's job market is the balance required to seek such a degree. Many online students have a full-time job which requires effective time management and workload balancing skills to properly handle both obligations. Employers put a premium on candidates who are able to control their schedule, while also being self-starters.
U.S. News ranked online programs using five categories: Engagement, Peer Assessment, Faculty Credentials and Training, Student Excellence, and Services and Technologies. Georgia State Online is among more than 1,800 programs surveyed by U.S. News. Only regionally accredited institutions whose programs are offered mostly or entirely online were evaluated.
