The start of a new school year is always an exciting time, full of opportunities to reconnect with friends, seek out new activities and find the organizations and clubs that are the right fit for each student’s interest.
Georgia State’s Panther Welcome is the official welcome celebration that allows students to find their place at the state’s largest university. Featuring a host of meet-and-greets, parties and other activities, it’s the perfect opportunity to meet members of the Panther family, get access to valuable resources and be immersed in Georgia State’s rich culture and tradition.
Just because you’re an online college student doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun and fellowship that comes with these events. Students taking college courses through Georgia State Online will have plenty of opportunities to participate as well.
- Welcome Back Comedy Show (Wednesday, Aug. 24, 7 p.m. on Facebook and Instagram): Three of the area’s funniest comedians will be on hand for an in-person and virtual show that will be streamed live on social media. Online students can check into the show to earn credit, while also participating virtually in the various activities and games that will happen simultaneously in-person as part of the pre-show.
- Speed Friending (Friday, Sept. 2 at Noon via Webex): If you’re hoping to connect with fellow Panthers, join us for a fun and interactive online session where you get to meet other Georgia State students. Breakout sessions will be held, pairing online students by shared interests to help them get to know each other a little better.
- Student Involvement Fair (Thursday, Sept. 8, 5-7 p.m. in PIN): Find your niche through this fully virtual student engagement fair, connecting online learners with the full array of extra- and co-curricular activities and clubs that might interest them. Students also can learn more about how to start up their own clubs and organizations, including ones that are fully online.
There are a host of other events and engagement opportunities for online students as well, including the popular Ask Me booths that are situated across all the physical campuses. These booths are open the first five days of class, providing answers and guidance for those trying to navigate college life. Students enrolled in online learning can access Panther Answer to get the help they need.
Georgia State Online students have virtual access to various activities and services through BeWellPanthers, including virtual yoga, meditation, nutrition counseling and cooking demonstrations. There also are an assortment of “open source” activities that are routinely shared through social media and digital media platforms, ensuring all students can best participate in campus life.
Online college courses offer flexibility and convenience for many students, and ensuring programs, activities and events like those in Panther Welcome are accessible and available virtually can attract more students to online learning.
